Press release - ShopHapperley is supporting independent producers in Gloucestershire and beyond!

12th Nov 2020 08:52 AM

A new online marketplace for honest food and drink producers launched on Friday 6 November. ShopHapperley hopes to change the way we shop for food and drink, focusing on food provenance and transparency when it comes to ingredients.

ShopHapperley is the latest venture by Happerley – a farmer-founded movement on a mission to level the playing field for British food and drink producers. Over the last few years, they have been making waves in the industry with their simple ethos – we all deserve to know where our food comes from.

“Happerley doesn’t stand for any creed and we make no judgement in the origin of ingredients.” said Matthew Rymer, Farmer and Co-Founder of the organisation, “We just believe in honesty. ShopHapperley is the first online hub for food and drink producers who are passionate about provenance. We’re empowering the consumer to know the journey of their food and make their own decisions about how and where they buy it.”

All the suppliers listed in the marketplace will be ‘transparent’. This means their supply chains have been independently validated by Happerley and published online so that consumers can be confident in the source of the ingredients.

Happerley have already embarked on several successful projects to champion food provenance across the sector; they have already recruited hundreds of independent, artisanal producers from across the UK and have validated and published their supply chains online for everyone to see. They have also been working with a national chain of nurseries to make their menus completely transparent and in August of this year, they opened Happerley England - England’s first Centre of Food and Drink Provenance, based in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

But Gloucestershire is where it all began, and Matthew and his team are keen to stay true to their roots. ShopHapperley will be based at their headquarters in the village of Apperley, just outside Tewkesbury and will be selling products from well-known Gloucestershire producers including beef from Everes’s Farm in Redmarley; fruit and fruit juices from Hayles Fruit Farm in Winchcombe and craft beers from Gloucester Brewery. Happerley’s own store within the marketplace - The Happerley Larder, will be making special offers to their Gloucestershire neighbours to make sure they benefit from the new service. From 6 November, they will be offering 10% off your first order if you sign up to their mailing list and free delivery on orders over £25 for addresses in GL18, GL19 and GL20.  They are also offering next day despatch on items ordered before midday Monday to Friday – a very handy benefit during lockdown.

Matthew said “Supporting businesses and customers in Gloucestershire, particularly during this challenging year, is a high priority for us. This area is producing some fantastic food and drink which we want to share with the county and further afield. We hope that local customers will take advantage of this unique opportunity to try fresh, local produce with provenance at its heart.”
