Happerley founder, Matt Rymer was speaking last week at Food Matters Live at ExCel in London. The three day conference and exhibition is fast growing to become a must-do for all in the food and drink industry.
Matt was taking part in the seminar programme, discussing provenance and the benefits of local sourcing with a panel of speakers including Ciara Gorst, the Head of Agriculture for the Co-operative; Sarah Dunning, Chair of Westmorland, the company behind the Tenby and Gloucester Services and Michael Mack, Farming and Food Consultant at Savills.
The discussion covered many angles on the provenance and local sourcing spectrum from Ciara Gorst setting out the Co-operative’s commitment to buying 100% British meat, now extending to cover its lamb and also its commitment to seasonal produce while Sarah Dunning charted the effect local sourcing for Gloucester Services had on the local economy, citing one Forest of Dean sausage roll producer that has grown to a six-figure annual production after proving especially popular with service station visitors.
The food market is waking up to consumer demand to making informed and responsible choices and we’re looking forward to many similar discussions over the coming months. We hope you’ll be with us.
Matt’s presentation will be online shortly.
