There was brewery at Box nearly a hundred years ago, and when it was resurrected it in 2004 they stayed true to the Great British brewing tradition, just adding a little personality and a lot of enthusiasm. Produced by hand in the brewery’s steam copper, the Box Steam Brewery's ingenuity and passion transform the finest local malts and the best British hops into consistently high quality beers, whilst minimising impact on the environment.

Sustainability

We have a commitment to sustainability here at Box Steam, making sure raw materials are used in the most efficient way possible during the brewing process. All our spent grains used during brewing go back to the farm to be utilised as feed for cattle. Our spent hops are also used efficiently by being composted for use in allotments.

Environment

Our brewery is named for the steam-heating process we employ as part of the brewing process. Not only does this guarantee a better flavour of product as there is no danger of the hops burning, but is also the most energy-efficient process, minimizing carbon emissions and recycling fresh water along the way.

Local Communities

We like to engage with the local community as often as we can. In 2019, we will be having four Open Days through the year; offering music, refreshments, tours of the brewery led by our very own head brewer, and plenty of fun activities. We also take pride in our regular sponsorship of many local charity events, including providing the refreshments for our local school charity summer gala.

Packaging & Waste

The bottles we use for our ales contain roughly 65% recycled glass, and we encourage our customers to recycle through our bottle labelling. We make every effort to recycle our own paper and plastic waste where we can.
