OUR BRAND VALUES*

Oxford Wholefoods is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing work opportunities to people with learning disabilities, who hand pack our healthy range of wholefood cereals, ingredients and snacks. We've been operating for 30 years and originated after occupational therapists first noted the therapeutic benefits patients derived from measuring out ingredients. We now work with Oxfordshire Social Services to provide a supervised work activity and a sense of purpose and community for our disabled clients. They help us pack an ever growing range of wholefoods, including cereal and flakes, wholefood staples such as beans, pulses and grains, dried fruits and nuts, and sweet and savoury wholefood snacks: all products offering real nutritional benefit and encouraging people to cook for themselves. We supply more than 100 shops belonging to our major customer Midcounties Co-operative. Midcoutnies is the UK's second largest Co-op and they've supported our enterprise and objectives from the start. We also supply independent retailers and community shops throughout Oxfordshire. Since our foundation, we have helped more than 100 disabled clients with work based training providing them with the supervision and environment in which they've been able to prosper, thrive and become valued members of the community.

OUR COMMITMENTS*

Sustainability

We source our products from wholesalers with specific commitments to ethically and sustainably produced product: they buy from local growers and producers wherever possible and use sea rather than airfreight when importing from overseas.

Environment

We are mindful of wanting to minimise food miles and so operate as a local service, supplying the local Co-ops and independent and community shops around Oxfordshire.

Local Communities

We were set up to serve the mentally disabled community. We provide supervised work activity for people with learning disabilities and work in partnership with Oxfordshire Adult Social Services to provide care and meaning for this community.

Packaging & Waste

We recycle all the packaging our products are brought in - cardboard, plastics, paper, wooden pallets. In our own packaging, we use cellophane bags and thermal transfer on our labels to ensure they are completely degradable.

Inspiring & Educating

We take placements from the Gallery Trust, who run the local Iffley Academy, and from Oxfordshire Social Services' local teams. We've also run work experience programmes for school leavers to give them an insight into adult social care provision.

Energy Reduction

The fact that our products are all hand packed by our clients means we minimise energy usage in our packing operation.

Nutritional Values

The majority of our products are pure, natural, unprocessed wholefoods, providing healthy alternatives to processed foods and encouraging consumers to cook for themselves at home.
